Am I ready for a Denture?

everything you need to know about dentures

What Is A Denture?

Complete and partial dentures are removable prosthetic devices that are used to replace missing or damaged teeth.

As with all of our treatments, depending on your needs your dentist will design a denture that is right for you. Removable partial dentures usually consist of replacement teeth attached to pink or gum-colored plastic bases. They are built with connectors or clasps that connect to your teeth.

How Many Teeth Can A Denture Replace?

Dentures can replace one single missing tooth if needed and can replace every tooth in the mouth in complete denture cases.

Complete dentures are used when all of the natural teeth in an arch (upper or lower jaw) are missing and need to be replaced. These dentures are custom-made to fit the individual’s mouth and are designed to look, feel, and function like natural teeth. Complete dentures are held in place by suction and sometimes with the help of denture adhesive.

Partial dentures are used when only some of the natural teeth are missing and need to be replaced. These dentures are designed to fill in the gaps between remaining natural teeth, and are held in place by clasps that attach to the natural teeth. Partial dentures can also be made to match the color and shape of the surrounding natural teeth, ensuring a natural and seamless appearance.

Are Dentures Expensive?

In terms of cost, dentures are often less expensive than other options for replacing missing or damaged teeth. However, dentures tend to have a lot of variability in price because different materials can be used and implants can be added to dentures to increase their retention and stability. Check our other article on implants and implant dentures for more information.

Dentures may also need to be replaced or adjusted over their lifetime, which can result in additional costs.
